Aate ka halwa or Kada Prasad is a traditional recipe made with wheat flour, ghee and sugar. The nutty flavor of the flour and ghee is super tasty and also healthy. To make it healthier I have opted for jaggery instead of sugar. This sweet dish is offered in gurudwaras as prasad. Earthy flavor of this dish is worth drooling. The traditional recipe does not use any kind of flavoring agents like cardamom powder or saffron or even nuts. But if you like you can surely add them as I have done. Actually this sweet with these ingredients by itself is complete and as such does not require any nuts. But I do love dry fruits so I add them for a crunch. So let’s dive into this divine recipe.
Ingredients
Whole wheat flour /multigrain flour – 1 cup
Ghee – 1 cup
Grated jaggery – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
Almonds – few chopped (completely optional)
Cardamom powder – a pinch (completely optional)
Method
1. In a heavy bottom pan add ghee and the atta. Roast the atta till the atta turns to a brown color. This would take approximately 15 minutes for a cup of flour on low flame.
2. Add grated jaggery and mix well till the jaggery melts. Also add cardamom powder and almonds. This step is completely optional.
3. Switch off the flame and add water. This helps to stay away from the vapor while adding water. Mix well. Then keep on the flame again and keep stirring till the halwa starts leaving the sides and comes together. Serve hot.
