Mor avil or mor Aval is nothing but poha made with buttermilk. A healthy and a quick breakfast option when you are in a hurry. Poha is made in every part of India. Kande pohe, sweet poha made during Janmashtami, puli avil (tamarind based poha), etc. This is a go to recipe and can be prepared very easily.
Ingredients
Poha – 1 cup
Buttermilk – 2 tsp
Water – 1 tsp
Coconut oil – 3 tsp
Raw peanuts – 2 tsp
Curd chilly – 1 or 2
Green chilly – 1 no slit
Curry leaves – few
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Udad dal – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
Grated coconut – 3 tsp
Salt – as per taste
Method
1. Wash the poha well in a seive and set aside. Take two tsp of curd and whisk well with a spoon. Add one tsp of water. Now add this thick buttermilk to the poha , mix well and allow it to rest.
2. In a pan take coconut oil and heat well. Fry the raw peanuts, curd chilly and set aside. To the same oil add mustard seeds, udad dal and hing and allow it to splutter. Add curry leaves and green chilly and fry well till they are crisp.
3. Now add the soaked poha and salt as per taste. Mix well. Garnish with grated coconut, fried peanuts and curd chilly.
