Upma

Upma is a go to recipe for many. But making Upma is quite easy for some and many do not get the right consistency. It either turns too sticky, sometimes lumpy or sometimes not as soft. But don’t worry. Follow these measurements and I bet you would master the art of making Upma. A loved breakfast by all Indians. It makes a good dinner recipe too. Try out this recipe.

Ingredients

Suji Rawa – 1 cup

Hot water – 3 cups

Salt – as per taste

Sugar – 1 tsp

Ghee /oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Cumin seeds 1 tsp

Udad dal – 1 tsp

Chana dal – 1 tsp

Green chilly – 1 no

Onion – 1 no

Tomato – 1/2 chopped

Ginger – 1/2 tsp

Cashews – as required (optional)

Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp

Method

1. In a pan add ghee or oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds , udad dal, Chana dal, cashews and Asafoetida and fry well. Then add ginger, curry leaves , green chillies and roast well.

2. Now add chopped onion and sauté well. Do not overlook. Add tomatoes and cook. Now add the rawa and roast for five minutes. Add salt and sugar. Now add water and stir continuously.

3. Cover the pan and cook for few more minutes. Mix well and Serve hot.
